Major new ID scam

Friday 16th March 2012

Edinburgh’s property managers and Landlords  are warned that a major new ID scam looks to be doing the rounds – and one which could land them in serious trouble.

It is in the form of a fax, apparently from HM Revenue & Customs, and headed ‘Non-resident landlord scheme – Application to receive UK rental income without deduction of UK tax’. HMRC, alerted to the scam by EAT yesterday, are looking into it as a 'matter of urgency'.

GP landlord fined over gas safety in student flat

Friday 17th February 2012

A landlord who is a Glasgow GP has been fined after failing to maintain a gas boiler at a student flat he owned in Oxford.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) prosecuted Dr Tariq Mahmood for breaching Gas Safety Regulations.
